Forward by Timothy Findley
Facing Artists is a handsome hardcover collection of portraits by Canadian photographer V. Tony Hauser. Throughout his career, he has photographed some of the most celebrated and influential people in the arts; both in Canada and abroad.
Personalities of cultural impact have faced Hauser’s camera. The resulting images are a collaboration of creative energies: those of the subject and the photographer. The accompanying text is a recollection of Hauser’s impressions and connections with these artists.
The images in the book were reproduced from original hand-coated platinum/palladium photographs, the most enduring and luminous of the print processes. Portraits include Tennessee Williams, Glenn Gould, Karen Kain, John Lennon, Count Basie, Maureen Forrester, Ben Heppner, Robertson Davies, and Margaret Atwood to name a few.
This book is a celebration of the people who have influenced not only the photographer’s life, but the lives of us all. Reflected in these faces we find our cultural identity.

Hans & Ingeborg
A strangely romantic picture story.
Hans & Ingeborg, the limited edition award-winning book. This is a story for adults about the complexity of relationships, albeit a slightly unconventional one. Perhaps husband and wife are a pair of department store mannequins, but the route they embark upon is a familiar one: courtship and marriage leading seamlessly into uncomplicated connubial bliss.
Hans & Ingeborg is a classy keepsake of a fairy tale romance. Reproductions of twelve original platinum photographs are mounted on heavy paper, each accompanied by a single, descriptive sentence. These pages are hand bound in an embossed hard-cover, which in turn slides into its own box for safekeeping.
The photographs for this collection were made with an antique 12×20 inch Folmer & Schwing banquet camera. This rare instrument is one of the largest portable view cameras; and this particular camera was built between 1907 and 1915.
This rare collectors’ book sells for $225 (plus GST)
The Majestic Maasai – New Collectors Edition Book
In 2007, 2008 and 2010 photographer V. Tony Hauser travelled to Kenya donating his time to document the humanitarian work of Canada’s most inspired international, youth-motivated aid organization
Attracted and captivated by the complex customs of various African tribes Hauser became acquainted with traditional Maasai villagers who eventually invited him to their homes to be photographed. Intrigued by the Maasai’s regal poise and serenity, the photographer began to make portraits with both modern and antique cameras resulting in intimate, engaging and elegant images of tribal chiefs, elders, families and children or young ‘warriors’ at the brink of manhood.
The masterfully produced collection of limited edition photographs is rendered in platinum, silver or carbon pigment prints. The collection is available for viewing at the studio / gallery, 37 King Street East, Toronto Ontario.
The new collector’s edition art book (which is featured in the video), further explores Maasai life through images and words. Hauser blends his photographs with legends and traditions told by elders who idolize the past. But he recognizes that the once nomadic Maasai are at the threshold of a subtle, but rapidly approaching evolution.

The proceeds from the sales of this collector’s edition book and the limited edition prints will be donated to Free the Children, to be directly invested in projects benefitting the communities in the Maasai Mara.
Stage Presence is a collection of 74 black & white portraits of stage artists who posed for Hauser’s large format camera, and are captured onto a now extinct Polaroid film. A truly great portrait is considered a revealing and intimate look into the soul of a person. To emphasize this notion, all the participants wrote personal thoughts about their art and themselves, allowing the viewer a rare glimpse into the core of an artist’s psyche. While the photographer set out to pay homage to some of Canada’s great and emerging artists, his book aims to celebrate the importance of all live performances.
